The Future Homes Standard is due to apply to all new homes from 2025. With the essential need for building regulations to be strengthened, it is vital that industry has enough time to address supply chain challenges in advance of these changes, as well as bringing house buyers on board. 

The panel, chaired by PRASEG Chair, Bim Afolami MP, brought an energetic display of concern that the government will need to support industry immediately in order to be ready for more rigorous low-carbon building specifications.  Targets are welcome, but without confidence in their deliverability the ambition to build homes fit for the future will fail. 

The panel consisted of stalwart champions of sustainable homes and represented key sectors required to ensure that the carbon footprint and efficiency of new housing stock is adequate to meet this new standard.  Expert commentary from the Future Homes Hub, Barratt Developments, Octopus Energy, Solar Energy UK and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) contributed to a vibrant and insightful discussion about what support builders and the service industries need to fulfil the proposed requirements.
